Milestones marking things Alaska Air Transit has done recently to improve safety, service, comfort, convenience, or economy

  • Fall, 2009 - implemented a flight risk assessment system, in order to standardize weather related fly / no fly decisions

  • Fall, 2009 - installed Spidertracks satellite based flight tracking, so we will know where your plane is at all times

  • Spring, 2010 - added additional cold storage space, so that your perishables will stay fresh

  • Summer, 2010 - installed weather cameras in Chenega Bay, with important views toward the arrival path and the runway. These cameras allow us to make more informed weather related fly / no fly decisions.

  • Summer, 2010 - began scheduled flights to Chenega Bay

  • Summer, 2010 - began scheduled flights to Nikolai, with flag stops in McGrath and the Nixon Fork mine

  • Winter 2010/ 2011 - AAT has lobbied the FAA for over four years to get instrument approaches published for Tatitlek and Chenega Bay. These procedures would improve both safety and reliability for all instrument flight capable operators, including medevac companies, which may serve our customer communities. Instrument approaches have now been scheduled to be published in October, 2011, for both Tatitlek and Chenega Bay. To see for yourself, click the following link to the FAA’s publication schedule web site, type the village name in the “Airport Name” search box at top, then click search. Of course, this is a federal government development project, which means that the schedule can change. If you’d like to encourage the process along, you should write to your congressional delegation and let them know just how important it will be for you to have improved safety and accessibility in your community. • 2009 through 2010- Alaska Air Transit contributed services worth over $37,000 to its customer communities. This included charters and seat fare vouchers donated for various community events, such as Tatitlek Cultural Heritage Week, the Chenega Memorial event, various fund raisers, and family memorial services. AAT also contributes to the Chugach School District’s Voyage to Excellence program by hosting students for job shadow learning experiences. These students, who come from school districts in various regions, spend a day with AAT in order to gain an understanding of the various job roles performed by our staff. Frequently, they are even able to fly along on a trip to one of our customer communities in Prince William Sound.
